Who's excited?

I'm excited!  Can I get a "hooty hoo" for Michael and Michael Have Issues?  Hooty hoo!  This show's going to be great.  If you haven't been following it, they're about to start filming all of their sketches.  That's right.  They are entering the production phase.  You should check out their blog for updates and giggles.  They post nice videos such as this one.

Birds

I've had a casual interest in TCM lately, because mostly TV is boring. I'm not being one of those TV snobs here, Im just saying that most of the channels on my television show either infomercials or sports. So TCM it is. Anyway, I was looking up the schedule, and tomorrow night has a theme. And that theme is birds.

8:00pm [Drama] Birdman Of Alcatraz (1962)
True story of Robert Stroud, the prison lifer who became an expert on birds.
Cast: Burt Lancaster, Karl Malden, Thelma Ritter, Betty Field Dir: John Frankenheimer

10:45pm [Horror/Science-Fiction] Birds, The (1963)
In a California coastal area, flocks of birds unaccountably make deadly attacks on humans.

1:00am [Musical] Bye Bye Birdie (1963)
A rock star's personal appearance turns a small town into a disaster area.

3:00am [Horror/Science-Fiction] Thunderbirds Are Go (1968)

YOU'RE WELCOME.

Highly Recommended.

Here at The Talented Winfrey Family, we like telling our readers about things they may not know about (Paula's Farty for example).  Today, I recommend to you Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.  Ther trailer is below.
Anyway, this movie is fuckin' nuts.  First of all, look at that cast.  Second of all, it is a legitimately good movie.  Yeah, it's crazy, but it's not just a wacky 70s movie.  I can honestly say that I've never seen a movie like this one.
PS
I hope y'all got your free piece of Kentucky Grilled Chicken today.

Oops

I forgot that I did this, but on Monday, March 16th, I asked a question on the imdb message board for Paul Blart: Mall Cop.  The post was title "Quick Quesiton" and it read, "I was just wondering if Kevin James appears naked in this film.  Thanks for the help!"  It only got two responses.  Spiffylindsey said, "I certainly hope so!" and Dmoney118 said "No."  So, assuming I trust Dmoney (I don't), I guess this is another let down.

Most awkward pizza

I bet this pizza would taste like awkward interactions.  I bet this lady gives horrible birthday presents.  "How is it?  Really good?  Like perfect?"

Mmmm.

I'm so hungry.  Like, I google image searched Philly Cheese Steak, and I could literally feel my mouth watering.  Anyway, this is just some place that I want to go before I die.  Preferably long before I die.  Here's one of those pictures of a Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich.

Hey guys, I found a funny video.

So I kind of want to see I Love You, Beth Cooper now.  Paul Rust is a funny dude, who is also in a band with Charlyne Yi (who isn't?)  Seriously though, I don't want to see I Love You, Beth Cooper.  That movie looks terrible, and not even in a "Maybe this is just a bad trailer" way.  Anyway, here is a video that Paul Rust made.

You Bring Me Joy

It took me forever to find this video! It's nowhere to be seen on youtube (okay, I didn't look very hard). I blame WMG, whether or not they own this song. Anywhoozle! I'd kind of forgotten about this video, but there was a period in my life where I watched it multiple times daily. It helps me deal with stress. Also, I LOVE it.

The 400 Blows

Alex says he loves The 400 Blows, but I've never seen it. So I looked it up on the Youtube, and you know what? I kinda like it.

Car Alarm Dance

It's not Chase dancing to Coldplay, but it'll do.

Old

I mean, yeah, you've probably seen this before, but who doesn't want to see it again?

This is about right.

Work Again.

Every once in awhile (a few times a week), "Walkin' On Sunshine" comes on the radio at work. Which depresses me. But then I (always) think of this clip, which makes me think about how much I wish I worked with Jack Black, or how much I love his dancing.

Stand Back!

Sorry I haven't been posting much. This is turning into The Delinquent Winfrey Family over here. Work's been busting pretty much all of my balls, and when I've been on the computer I've just been listening to The Sound of Young America interviews (thanks to Alex, I am now addicted).
Anyway, the point of this is to let y'all know that my birthday is coming up in less than a month. Not much time left to get presents!!! Especially not if you want to order some hard-to-find B movie, or strawberry soda from Pop the Soda Shoppe. Both of those will probably take at least a month, so you'll need a different option.
I do have a video to post, but it's related to work also. The song "Stand Back" by Stevie Nicks comes on occassionally at work, and I love it. I mean, the beginning of this song just makes me euphoric. I found this video of her playing it in what looks like a canyon on Mars. She is surrounded by a band that is from many different eras and genres of music. The keyboardist inexplicably plays with his hands crossed over each other, even thought that must be unnecessarily more difficult than just playing regular style. You have to skip past about a minute of bongo playing to get to the song.

Have you heard that Stevie has been ~*~*in the news~*~* lately? And by in the news I mean on Mix 106? Apparently she said that Lindsay Lohan should never play her in the film version of her life. Well, obviously, Stevie. Obviously.

I've got to say this.

Funny Or Die, I love you and I respect you, but you need to stop.

These celebrity videos are never funny.  Andy Rooney out.

Me Likey

I got the Jack Handey book.  It's awshum.  Kerry and I both agree that it's strange that he's not more famous.  Anyway, here is an audio recording of a very funny essay from the book.  Stay cool ya bunch of nerds!  (That's my new, kind of long catch-phrase

Uh oh

Some of their comments here are...I don't want to say douchey, but douche-like.  It's still kind of interesting.  They had good things to say about Parks and Recreation and Sit Down, Shut Up.  They also had bad things.  It's weird hearing this much criticism about shows that have under 3 episodes each.  Regardless of what these nerds say, you should always watch these shows.

I've got a new obsession.

That obsession is looking at pictures of celebrity impersonators.  There are some great ones.  There is a Kenny Rogers impersonator, but why would you need one?  You can pick up like, every 5th guy off the street and he will look like Kenny rogers.  This one is my favorite though.  Or maybe it's this one.  Either way, those two are not too sad, because it seems like those people can go through their every day lives normally.  Essentially, they have to get dressed up to look like their celebrity.  This guy is another story.  It's a 24 hour thing for him.

So many things to learn...

from this kid.  These are his impressions, but don't be offended, because he's just having fun.  Anyway, I think that cla6xxx said it best when he said, "He sounds like Indian in all of them, at least a bit (in all of them)."
I like that he can't even do a British accent.  Like, that's the most basic, annoying accent that everyone does.

Glass Candy

I visited H. this weekend and he dropped the bomb that he's been really into this band lately. They're called Glass Candy, I guess. In case you didn't know, H. listens exclusively to Motown, electro-pop, and dance music.

The Lovely Feathers

Something that I will never understand is why The Lovely Feathers are not more popular.  Their new album is due out in late May, and iss gon' be sick!  Here's a song that wasn't on their old album.

Lynch

This is a Moby music video directed by David Lynch.  That's...I mean, that's why I posted it.

Shot In The Back Of The Head from Moby on Vimeo.

I tried to warn her

I was like, "Kerry, someday you're going to regret posting this video," but you know how she is.
Mackey.  Mackey.

Nothing to say about this.

Clearly I have a paper due tomorrow.  O My G I'm such a procrastinator.  My main reason for posting this is that it kind of reminds me of the Maude theme for a few seconds.

Here you go.

Kerry's internet is down, so she wanted me to post her vlog here for you guys.  Her room is so crazy, right?  Don't worry, she doesn't have trouble getting to sleep though, and she's still editing that screenplay.  See her little Eeyore in the background there?

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay

This is a trailer for a fan-made adaptation of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon and It. Looks. Awesome.  Remember in the novel when they focused on how amazing his illustrations were, and how he could communicate movement so well?  Well, they couldn't get someone who was good at drawing to do this.  Like, that looks like a third grader drew it.  Mostly though, What?  My favorite shot is the one of the kid with his head against the wall.

It's Happening

The trailer for the remake of Fame, you guys:

It should be pretty clear by now, but just in case it isn't: Winfreys love movies about dancing. Do you even know how many times we've watched the intro to Staying Alive? A lot. I'm not so jazzed about this remake, mostly because 80s dance movies had a certain magic that a 2009 dance movie can't hope to recreate. I think this is primarily due to the fact that all recent dance movies are about hip-hop, and the clothing that these would be hip-hop dancers wear just isn't revealing or embarassing enough.
I don't know why you'd try to remake something that's obviously already perfect.I know this video isn't actually from the movie, but it's awesome.

But the real question remains: will there be a topless crying scene? We can only hope. If the unsexy nudity of this scene doesn't make you uncomfortable, the low-budg style of this clip certainly will! Don't do it, Coco!

A Winfrey Plea

Somebody please, for the love of Christ, give Bob Odenkirk some money to make a movie or a TV show that he wants to make.  I just listened to this interview with him and it's so sad.  He talked about how he just hasn't made a film that he feels good about, and how no one will give him money.  He said that he has taken it upon himself to help other people get their projects made (Tim and Eric), and he wishes someone would do that for him.  Imagine how great a movie written by Bob Odenkirk would be.  It would be very great.  He was so excited about Derek and Simon on Superdeluxe, and now that's not even something that's real anymore.  It's just really sad that there's this amazing and hilarious guy who is really nice and has been working (successfully) in the comedy business for 20+ years, and he's struggling to get his passion projects made.  This world is Messed. Up.

Something you probably knew that I didn't.

The kid in the At&T rollover minute commercials is Frigo from Adventureland. I just noticed.

This guy really liked Burn Notice

I don't want to say that this could be Chase when he gets older, but...
My favorite quote, "She's like a big whore, and she gets naked in a lot of the shows, but you just see like, the back end of her.  Like her ass and her back."
or, "It's not even from America and it's one of the best shows."
I don't expect you to watch this, but you can just click almost anywhere during it's 10 minute run time, and you can hear something kind of funny.

Twin Peaks: Fall Asleep With Me

It doesn't take a music genius or a Pandora station to figure out that Alex and I aren't into Mike Patton (unless Alex has gotten into some weird Faith No More phase. I don't know, strange things can happen in college). But he's obviously good at what he does, if you like what he does. Kind of like David Lynch (sorry, I'm contractually obligated [Alex made me sign a contact for the blog] to mention David Lynch every third post). I found this song Mike Patton recorded called "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me." It's got that Twin Peaks feel about it, which for Alex would be the feeling of falling asleep in a recliner with your head in your hand and occasionally waking up whenever I tell you to pay attention.

Counterpoint

Sorry I didn't believe you, but THIS was the version I heard. Mom was right; Robert Palmer is in this band.

Just something that I've come to believe.

I'm going to just get this out there, because I don't want some pesky reporter to dig it up later. I didn't used to like sour cream. On anything. Now, I'm a firm believer that it adds, in the most subtle way, to almost any food. Take for example this delicious burrito that I purchased from Chipotle.
Was it good?  I'm going to have to give that uh-hell yes.  But there was something missing.  I specifically asked for sour cream, but when I returned to my dorm there was none.  I mean, yeah, I ate it all, but the whole time I couldn't help but think about how different things could have been.

This settles it.

GREGO MOTTOLA-O

The AV Club had a really nice interview with Greg Mottola, who I still think is a really cool dude.  Since the Winfrey family is such a fan of his latest film (and probably his next one, too) I figured I would post his interview.  Enjoy.

An old fav

This is a classic.  In the Winfrey household this is something that makes us all like, "Why don't more people love this?"  But we're also secretly like, "I'm glad more people don't know about this."

Diablo

This is just awesome.

Oh man.

Okay, I know that Godtube is Alex's beat. But honestly, I couldn't NOT post this. I'll let you know a few things first off:

1. I didn't watch this whole thing. It's like, what, 9 minutes long? All you need to see is the first minute, although I'm sure the whole thing is golden.
2. This isn't as sexy as the title makes it sound.
3. I think Jesus should've been played by Harry Dean Stanton. This could've been way better.
4. I think this is how most guys watch porn, right? In a curtained room, with pants on? Talking to themselves? Sure. I wouldn't know, I'm not a guy.
5. The porn watching guy is serious about this role! No one could accuse him of phoning it in.

Just Another Werewolf Post

Except this one has a little something special.  That little special something is actually three things.
1) Fred Armisen
2) Charlene Yi
3) It's a Man Man music video
I hope you like it!

Monday, April 6, 2009

Aw man.

I like Bill Hader a lot.  I think he might be one of the dudes.  He seems super nice, and he is a huge nerd.  If someone was like, "Name one celebrity who you want to have continued success,"  I'd be like, "That's easy, stupid.  Bill Hader."  I can't wait for House of Joel to come out, and I found this funny video of him on Letterman.

Fo' yo' viewing pleasure.

I just like seeing Will Forte doing stuff.  I told Kerry about this a long time ago.  Now she can finally appreciate it.

Great Minds are Winfreys

Lookout!  Two similar posts.  I think you should be used to it by now.
I'm a big fan of Rotten Tomatoes in general, but I really enjoy their "Five Favorite Films With..." feature.  Today I saw that they were talking with Billy Ray Cyrus.  This should be interesting, I thought to myself.  Well, let's just get this out of the way.  Yes, The Horse Whisperer was on his list.  Twilight was also on there for some reason.  But the weirdest (and most interesting for the one person that reads this blog) part was his inclusion of... Blue Velvet.  This is what ol' Billy Ray had to say about the film "Let's go with Elephant Man -- no, I'm going to go with Blue Velvet, for myDavid Lynch pick. I'm going to go with Blue Velvet because I love Roy Orbison so much. He was a great influence on me musically, and still is. That's when I kind of put two and two together -- with Blue Velvet -- and thought, film is a great way for your music to be heard, without radio. It's a great way for your music to be heard."

David Lynch can reunite The Beatles

It's common knowledge (in my brain) that David Lynch can do anything. He can move mountains through the power of Transcendental Meditation. Anyway, apparently TM can do a lot of other, more fun things (who wants to move a mountain? Not me), because at last night's David Lynch Foundation benefit, The Beatles reunited. The ones that are alive, that is, although I wouldn't put it past David Lynch to somehow get the dead ones involved. But the real question is, who's that dude talking in the middle of the video?

I'm glad the benefit went well and all, but honestly I'll be glad when David gets back to twittering.
But that's not the real point of this. The point of this is that I found something, you guys, while looking for a clip of the Beatles. I found this:

If you read the info, you'll find that someone not only made a (kind of cool, but mostly mediocre?)mashup of the theme to Blue Velvet and Eleanor Rigby, but wrote a STORY to go along with it, AND made an ENTIRE ALBUM of David Lynch mashups. I'm half creeped out, half jealous, but mostly just want to watch Blue Velvet again.

Embedding disabled :(

What's up with all of these people?  I wanted to post this video, but I guess I won't be able to.

Sunday, April 5, 2009

Answer.

Yeah, so that was pretty easy.  I'm back to not liking Kristen Stewart.

Put as many Walkmen and Wavves songs in there as you want, Nylon TV.  It won't help.
"She's entirely iconic in a way that is like,  cool and badass and meaningful in like...(closes eyes and plays with hair) she's just cool."
I mean, yeah, Kristen Stewart plays music, but only for herself.  For her ears only.

Adventureland, Part Deux

I think it's appropriate to start this out with a youtube comment. This is Tizzy77's opinion:
"This movie is not funny at all. They make it seem like it's this great comedy from the trailer and instead there are barely any funny parts at all. Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader are barely in it. If you are in the mood for comedy I seriously suggest you watch something else. And don't get me started on how annoying the lead characters are....2 hours of my life gone forever."

Right. Okay. At least youtube user 36Navy gets it:
"Kennywood! I got caught smoking a blunt and drinking beer in the parking lot. The security guards took my weed but let me go into the park drunk and high. Those were the days."

So anyway. If we're all ready to get real (I am), Adventureland is the best movie I've seen in a really long time. Basically, you should see it if you've recently graduated from college, only to find yourself broke with no career opportunities or marketable skills, and are then forced to live with your parents for an embarrassing amount of time. Not that that's ever happened to anyone who writes this blog!!!!!! But if it has happened to you, then you will find the movie's portrayal of such an event to be remarkably astute.

Here are some bullet-ed thoughts I had:
-Greg Mottola captured the thing I remember most from a shitty summer job: the music. Except in my world it was a department store, not an amusement park, and the song was "I'm So Excited!" instead of "Rock Me Amadeus," and it played every 15 minutes.
-Ryan Reynolds. Where do you stand? I am firmly pro-Reynolds. I think the main thing holding him back from being a bigger star is that he's not good-looking enough or bad-looking enough. Although he did marry Scarlett Johannson (ugh, too lazy to look up the spelling, people), so maybe that disproves my "not good looking enough" theory.
-Because I'm not a 14 year old, I went into this movie hating Kristen Stewart. But she was so good! I don't know, man. What's her deal? Kristen Stewart, if you are reading this and would like to explain, once and for all, what your deal is, contact us. I'm pretty sure an interview here would just be great for your career.

The takeaway: this movie made me nostalgic for summer. And I wish there was a happier ending for Martin Starr's character. :(

Movie Review!

Adventureland was good.  However, don't go in expecting another Superbad.  This movie is lighter on the dick jokes, and heavier on the post-college angst.

Just kidding guys.  I'm not a douche.

Anyway, I seriously liked Adventureland.  However, it's another piece of the puzzle that is Kristen Stewart.  She is a mystery wrapped inside a puzzle wrapped inside an enigma.  I'm sure Kerry's review will be much more in depth, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I didn't look at my watch even once!  And it was late and it didn't even make me sleepy (unlike Firewalk With Me)!  I think Greg Mottola is a cool dude, and I hope the parts of this story that are autobiographical are the parts where he gets all the girls.  It would only get like, an 8 out of 10, but it had this song in it.  That bumps it up to a 9.
In conclusion, I think that you should see this movie because:
1) It funny
2) It has nice music.
3) Don't expect another Superbad
4) Make you happy

That's how I end all of my movie reviews.  Just, weird, unclear statements.
Make sure to leave your comments about Kristen Stewart, I mean Adventureland.

Just so you know...

This is a thing that exists. Just click. And to answer the question you will have immediately after seeing this, yes, there is a John McCain version.

Welcome to my Friday night.

Hold up!

I tried to write a big explanation for this, and then I erased it.  Like, I literally erased it.  I generally write out all of my potential blog posts long hand.  Anyway, this is a re-edit of a trailer for the film Amelie (which, you know, whatever about your opinion on that one).  It would be completely unremarkable if it weren't for the description.  "I just made a better version of the Amelie trailer that goes to the song much better than others."

You're right Moviemaker2.  This is much better than the trailer made by a professional.  These youtube people are getting out of controOoOl!
PS
I didn't know that Chase was in the business of re-editing (re-imagining) movie trailers.

Bunnies!

In case you didn't know, Alex was home last week for spring break, which meant that the Winfreys convened at Winfrey Family HQ, good times were had, and everything was in its right place. There was no need for a blog because we could watch internet videos together.
But then he went back to school. So back to the blog! H. sent me this link last week because he knows me and he knows what I love: Martha Stewart, animals, Martha Stewart interacting with animals, and men who are a cross between Woody Allen and Rick Moranis. This is the second half of the clip, which maybe isn't as good as the first part, but it was the only part that I could find on youtube to embed here. And you pretty much get the point. That guy has a bird on his shoulder and that bunny is ignoring Martha Stewart. And even if you don't watch this all (which I know you won't), at least watch it starting at 4:15. Because you want to know what that guy's favorite books are. Try to guess his top three before you watch.
