Summer Tunes

You guys, I can't wait for summer. All I can think about is sewing sundresses and then wearing those sundresses. These are songs I listened to a lot last summer, and they're getting me excited for warm weather. The Jenny and Johnny video for Big Wave is really excellent, and really creepy (in a Lost Highway sort of way)!

I saw this video a while ago, and I'd been meaning to post about it. It's one of those videos that you never forget. It's also one of the few music videos that has actually scared me. It is directed by Eric Wareheim (and Fatal Farm worked on it!), which is strange. I guess I never really knew what he was capable of because of what he does with Tim and Eric and most of his other videos, but man. This is something. Seriously, watch it.


It looks so good. And it is so much more than just a shock I think. I can't explain it, but I know that I like it. There are parts of Tim and Eric that are creepy, and this video has something that I can't explain that I love in scary movies. What I'm saying is, Eric Wareheim, direct a horror film. Just think on it.

Muscles

This was a really weird phase in Diana Ross's career.

Michael Nesmith

Holy S you guys. This video is nuts! This song is nuts! They just don't make 'em like the used to.

I found this song through my Michael Nesmith research. Dude was in the Monkees! While I do "like" Cruisin', I LIKE Joanne. I've been listening to this nonstop!

Waiting on a Friend

I just like the Rolling Stones. If I hear a song of theirs, I will always be happy to hear it, but I probably won't put on one of their albums of my own accord. When I SEE the Rolling Stones, however, I love them. This video for Waiting on a Friend isn't embeddable, but you should watch it anyway. Mick Jagger's outfit is totally a Nerdboyfriend-worthy ensemble. My favorite part is when he (very literally) says, "I'm just waiting in a doorway," and then purses his lips.

What happened?

It's weird that things like this just don't happen anymore. Like, sure, it was on Broadway. Whatever. Did you even listen to those songs? It was like Mama Mia all over again. How can you take such a funny, nice sounding song and make it sound so bland and shitty. We need more weird collaborations in our musical films. Let's get on it guys.

Sleater-Kinney

There's no real topical reason for posting this, just that this song's been stuck in my head, and working all day in an office kind of feels like this video sometimes. I spend a great deal of time around that type of envelope, so I'm just gonna g'head and make some wings out of them. And, of course, Carrie Brownstein is one of my biggest heroes. I really don't think Alex will like this song.

Favorite Christmas Songs, Part 3

I know I already posted my all-time favorite song (not just for Christmas, but for always), Last Christmas by Wham!. I'm not going to post it again, but I AM kind of going to post it again. There are roughly one million covers of Last Christmas, most of which I have on my computer (just kidding, I only have about 45). This one is probably the best, though, for staying faithful to the original while still adding something new. Nothing is better than Wham!, but this is pretty close!

Remember when you were just a small child, and Christmastime filled you with a sense of wonder? Well, I have a great way for you to recapture that feeling! Just watch this crazy Bob Dylan video for "Must Be Santa." Mostly you will be wondering what the hell Bob Dylan's doing.

In all seriousness, this is great. Sure, it looks like the worst party ever (is Bob Dylan a ghost or a monster or what? On NPR they called him "Tom Petty's Aunt" and I have to agree), but it definitely isn't boring. We need more confusing, sped-up versions of Christmas standards. Good job, Bob Dylan.

Do They Know It's Christmas?

Of course by now we've all seen the Comedy Death Ray version of Do They Know It's Christmas? I'm not even going to bother linking to it because I trust you've seen it. I like it, it's funny, but does it have Boy George? I THINK NOT.

Strangely enough, Boy George is the only one who doesn't looked stoned outta his gourd. Sting and Bono look awful! And everyone else looks like they would rather be somewhere, anywhere else. They are clearly TALKING to each other while they are supposed to be singing the chorus. It's almost like they really didn't want to be part of Band Aid, but their publicists told them they should. Oh wait.

I'm Probably the Only One, But...

I know this is more a result of me being weird and creepy, but does this Edward Sharpe video remind anyone else of Manson Family footage? I can't be the only one who thinks so.

As much as I like this band, I think the less I know about them the better. What I'm saying is, maybe this isn't the kind of band I want to take home to my mom, because maybe this is the kind of band that likes to wander around in the woods and doesn't like to wear a shirt.

Nilsson Schmilsson

Deep in a Harry Nilsson phase right now. For me, a combo of interesting personal story and catchy pop music always leads to a lethal obsession. All Harry Nilsson songs are good, obviously, but this one is haunting me. I know this is in a movie that we've seen a lot, but I can't remember what it is.
