Things I Shouldn't Be Thinking About

As everybody probably knows, Oprah Winfrey launched her television network recently. While OWN debuted to much fanfare, Martha Stewart's been quietly building her own TV empire on the Hallmark Channel.
When Martha moved her show to Hallmark, I thought to myself, "Downgrade, girl!" But this month, while I was flipping through Martha Stewart Living (my bff got me a subscription for the second year in a row, jealous?), and then later when I was perusing Whole Living (a Martha Stewart Omnimedia publication, natch), I noticed that half the ads were for shows on the Hallmark Channel. Shows produced by or starring Martha herself. So that's what the woman was doing...taking over Hallmark. In addition to her regular-style show, she has a baking show hosted by herself, a cooking show hosted by some other lady, and the show I'm most excited about:

Oh, hell yes. Marc Morrone is the best. That guy loves all the animals!
Out of curiosity, I decided to check out Hallmark's schedule. Do you want to know what's on today? You will not even believe me when I tell you. In addition to the aforementioned shows, you can watch three hours of Cheers, three and a half hours of Who's the Boss?, two hours of I Love Lucy, two hours of Little House on the Prairie, and (are you ready for this?) FOUR HOURS of the Golden Girls. FOUR HOURS! This channel does not even take a break to show informercials for the Slap Chop. It is just a straight shot of sitcom genius.
Congratulations, Martha. Oprah might have all the glory right now, but we all know you're just biding your time until the eventual takeover.

Thought on Polanski

Did you guys watch The View today? I didn't* (even though, on my Mondays off work, I've been known to), but I read Lindsay's article about it on Jezebel. Alex and I have been talking a lot about this. There's always an icky, uncomfortable feeling that comes along with liking the creative work of someone who's done horrible things in their personal life. Well, I can only speak for myself, but I assume others would agree. It has always been hard for me to reconcile that some of my favorite films are made by a man who left his wife for her adopted daughter (I'm talking about Woody Allen, of course). And last week, we all learned about Mackenzie Phillips's incestuous relationship with her father, which makes enjoying the Mamas and the Papas all but impossible. Most of us aren't capable of divorcing an artist's creative output from the context behind it. I can't ever hear "You Look Wonderful Tonight" on the soft rock radio without thinking of Eric Clapton writing it for George Harrison's wife, nor can I hear "Lady in Red" without thinking about how the singer wrote it for his children's babysitter. I'm not even entirely sure that last one is true, but it's still all I think about.
What I'm saying is, it's difficult for me to think of Roman Polanski as someone who drugged and raped a 13 year old child. But he did.
Alex has a new business venture that's come out of all of this...t-shirts that say TEAM POLANSKI. He'll apparently have at least one customer, and that customer is named Whoopi Goldberg! Probably no one else though, aside from the entire country of France.

*I watched The Golden Girls instead. Blanche's daughter wanted to have a child through artificial insemination, hilarity ensued.

Best TV Themes/Intros, Part 1.

Alex and I love TV themes. I know for a fact that one of us went through a pretty heavy "Murder She Wrote" theme phase (hint: it wasn't me). Anyway, here are my favorite television themes. Some of them I like for the song, but I enjoy the ones that tell some backstory!
Like this one: Perfect Strangers. Also, I CANNOT buy that Cousin Larry is just now moving out of his family's home. Dude looks 35.

Degrassi Junior High: This one plays in my head every morning. Gee, I gotta go to school.

This isn't really the intro, but I just wanted to let Alex know that FINALLY here's a version of the song that isn't from Family Guy. For some reason this used to be so hard to find!

And OBVIOUSLY:

Who's the Boss?: It gets realllll creepy at right about :26...

Okay, those are my favorites. Alex, get on it!
