So funny
Guys, I know I need to get my head in the game. These last few weeks have been a blur of Monster Cookies and The Wire. Things will be better. Until then, we at least have this.

The Talented Winfrey Family's H.P. Lovecraft Book Club
Alex was right about April bringing some great things. Of course, as he mentioned, there's the Baby Mountain premiere and our brand-new film club. Also, Friend of TTWF Lauren is in Ohio this week! And IF YOU CAN HANDLE MORE, it's time for a new selection in our book club. But first, a little about our February/March selection, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick.
As Alex mentioned, our various clubs and projects are usually attempts to diversify our entertainment selections. I'm not a big science-fiction person--I mean, I grew up watching Star Wars and Alien with Alex and Dad, but those were basically just action movies in space. Also, it should be noted that the ONLY thing I remember about Alien is my dad saying, "There's a little Ripley butt crack," when Sigourney Weaver is fighting aliens in her underwear. Unfortunate but true. Regardless, I ended up really loving DADOES. Perhaps the word "unputdownable" is thrown around too often these days (it's not), but this book was unputdownable! I wouldn't want to ruin the story for anyone, so I won't divulge any plot points. I was going to share a short Philip K. Dick bio, but you all have Wikipedia. I will, however, point this out:
"Dick was "resurrected" by his fans in the form of a remote-controlled android designed in his likeness. The android of Philip K. Dick was included on a discussion panel in a San Diego Comic Con presentation about the film adaptation of the novel, A Scanner Darkly. In February 2006, an America West Airlines employee misplaced the android's head, and it has not yet been found."
I would recommend NOT checking out that android's picture on Dick's wikipedia page. It actually scared me a little.
Next month's TTWF H.P. Lovecraft Book Club pick is Snow Angels by Stewart O'Nan. I'm really excited about this one, even though Lexie's warned me it's going to be a downer (he's seen the movie, starring Mr. Sam Rockwell).

Great News
With the month of March coming to an end, it's time to get excited about April. What does April bring? Well, for one thing, April Fools Day. Expect some pretty wacky posts on that day. Also, my show, Baby Mountain, will be premiering. But, one of the things I'm most excited about is the formation of a new club. That's right, everyone. The Talented Winfrey Family Film Club will begin this April! Get excited! Much like the book club, this is a great opportunity to view some films that we've been meaning to watch, or just would not watch unless we were forced to. Like, I loved The Corrections, but all I'm saying is that was a big book. And now, we can watch some long, great films and discuss them here! The club's first selection is Werner Herzog's Fitzcarraldo, which I'm very excited about. I hope y'all can join us.

Tammy Wynette
There are basically two types of music I like: dance music from the 80s (Prince, New Order, the song Electric Dreams) and traditional, old-fashioned country music (the type my grandpa calls "country-western"). One of my all-time favorite movies, Five Easy Pieces, featured a character named Rayette, played brilliantly by Karen Black. Rayette is obsessed with Jack Nicholson (who could blame her, even though he clearly doesn't give a shit about her), and in my tradition of identifying with the entirely wrong character in every movie, I felt a very deep connection to Rayette. She was constantly listening to Tammy Wynette throughout the movie, including this song. I love that Tammy Wynette is always decked out in sequins, even while singing such a sad, desperate song.
Also, this picture sums up all that is great about Five Easy Pieces:
Karen Black in an animal print coat, Jack Nicholson being a badass, and that crazy lady that Bob Rafelson puts in all of his movies. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and Netflix it now! It's on Instant Play.

The Saddest Thing
Obviously, terrible things happen to people every day. In the grand scheme of life, a radio station shutting down is not that big of a deal. But the fact that WOXY is no longer broadcasting still makes me sad. I spent so much time in college listening to this station, and I've not found another station so reliable. Of course, I think a large part of my love was because they were stationed in Ohio for so long, but even when they moved to Austin I understood (because, really, who wouldn't, given the chance?). Hopefully they'll work it out.

Happiness
FINALLY. I've been periodically scouring the internet (I mean, I looked once a few months ago) for Chelsea Peretti's old web series Making Friends with Chelsea Peretti. Since the demise of SuperDeluxe, it was impossible to find. No longer! Someone (Chelsea Peretti) posted this back in December and I was too much of a dummy to find it until now. Chelsea Peretti is my favorite comedian who isn't in very much stuff (I have other favorites who are in more things). I didn't know until recently that she writes for The Sarah Silverman Program. She's so great.
Come on
Nick Thune is a funny guy. This is a funny video that I've been watching a lot. Come on, girl!

The Gleibs
The Talented Winfrey Family's favorite movie critic is and will always be Roger Ebert, but Owen Gleiberman is a close second (correct me if I'm wrong, Winfrey). He doesn't have the authority or the generosity of Ebert, nor does he have Ebert's near-lyrical descriptions. But he does know how to turn a phrase, that Gleiberman. As long as you're not asking him to review a horror film or any sort of physical comedy (he hates them, always), he gives every film a fair and thorough look. Including, apparently, music videos, specifically Lady Gaga's Telephone. It's an interesting article even if your interest in Lady Gaga is slight (as is mine). And did you know that The Gleibs was an English major? Strange but true.

Here you go.
For me, this blog might as well be a Twitter account, because all I've been doing lately is posting links to other stuff. Well, sorry. The new She And Him album is on NPR this week! Listen to it while you cut up a sweet potato for your lunch tomorrow, or whatever it is you do on Monday nights.
Finals Week
"Let's imagine if you can that you've got to organize a party for a bunch of 11 year old boys." Sorry. I can't imagine that, weirdo.

Werner, Explained
We're always talking about Werner...but the A.V. Club explains his importance much more concisely than we ever could.

Thursday Night Jams
So I love Julie Klasner. Who doesn't? And it turns out her taste in music is nearly identical to mine, aside from all the musicals. Her playlist is absolutely perfect: Carole King, Fleetwood Mac, even The Carrie Nations. The best choices, though, are Carly Simon's "Coming Around Again" (which is one of my favorite Carly songs, and which JK describes perfectly: "You can't not love Simon's amber-honey voice sprawling over those choruses and belting those jaded, bittersweet truisms about what it's like to grow up.") and this Dolly Parton song, which I'd actually never heard before. It's now permanently lodged in my brain.

Roadhouse
This weekend, H. and I saw Pretty in Pink in a theatre. More on that experience later, provided I can get my thoughts in order (unlikely). Anyway, the theatre showed the trailer for Roadhouse, and all I can say is wow. Every line in this trailer is a an instant catchphrase (for me, in my head). Mostly "He's the best friend a good time ever had." Sure! That makes sense.
Did you spot the Celebrity Gilmore Girls cameo? Hint: she's the voice of Pepper Ann!

Sorry we haven't been posting, you guy(s). It's just that we've been unable to do anything at all besides watch Pageant Talk over and over. To make up for our absence, here's a cute video of the cast of Community reacting to the great news that NBC picked up a second season! I am so happy that I forget I'm not actually a cast member. We get to work with Chevy again, you guys!

Whoah.
Sure, Kerry's been on my case about not posting. Blah blah. I guess it's because I haven't been able to function since I saw the footage from the American remake of Spaced.

"Grab Ya Nuts and Follow Me"
I could try to point out the best parts of this website, but all the parts are the best parts. You're just going to have to explore it yourself.
And you thought I was through talking about Twin Peaks.
Apparently Alex is too "busy" with "school" to post anything on the blog, so I guess this means I have free rein to post about whatever I wish. Great! Here's a video interview with Kyle MacLachlan, perhaps best known (in my dreams) as Special Agent Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks. Agent Cooper is my favorite Twin Peaks character (besides Dr. Jacoby. Or Gordon Cole. Or that weird shut-in who lived with all the orchids) and I have such a crush on both the character and Kyle MacLachlan at that point in time. What a dreamboat, am I right, ladies? In this interview, KM talks a little about David Lynch and a little about working on Desperate Housewives. It's one of my deepest hopes that KM finds a great role that can showcase how weird he is. I don't watch Desperate Housewives(because I'm 23), but I have a feeling that it doesn't really play up the "attractive/creepy" dichotomy that makes KM so awesome to me. But who knows? Maybe Desperate Housewives is all about KM hiding in closets and drinking Heineken.
Zach G.
We love Zach Galifianakis, as do all sane people. I'm fully aware that I don't actually KNOW him in real life, but I do kind of feel a sort of sisterly protection towards him. I like that he'd rather hang out at his farm in North Carolina than do Hollywood type things! That seems normal! So it really does make my heart break when I read articles like this one. The fact that he had to tell some asshole, "That's only in the movie," is so sad. I mean, okay, obviously he is making a ton of money off of The Hangover, and he is not asking for anyone's sympathy, but I remember reading in an article that he just didn't want to be known as "the fat guy" or "the weird guy." He's such a funny comedian and he's been consistently great for years, but that doesn't stop people from joining an "I love Alan from The Hangover" group, or asking him where his stupid satchel is. Of course, let's not forget the atrocious (and not very effective, I don't think) marketing for Youth in Revolt, a movie whose trailer referred to him mockingly as "That Guy from The Hangover." First off, Nick Twisp would've hated that, were he a real person and not a figment of C.D. Payne's warped imagination. And secondly, it's just lazy and mean.
All that being said, I am shocked that Zach G. is hosting SNL this weekend! I'll be DVR-ing it, or possibly just cancelling plans in order to stay home and watch it. Given that his style is pretty different from SNL's, I'm curious to see how it all works out.

Jams Aplenty
The first time I heard this Robin Thicke song (on a New Year's Eve show, because I am so cool), I fell in love. It's pretty easy to figure out why...he sounds like Prince.
This video is so clearly ridiculous and not really very sexy at all. Mostly because Robin Thicke looks EXACTLY LIKE HIS DAD!
When I tried to remind Alex of a Robin Thicke song from many years ago, he'd completely forgotten about it. Which is weird, because Alex loves dance songs that sample classical music (I'm really only talking about Night on Disco Mountain). Anyway, here it is.
Clearly he's gone through a few, um, identity changes. Like cutting his glorious mane, for one. Sorry, bro, you just made yourself look even more like your dad.

John Legend
It's been awhile since I've posted a good R&B jam. Yes, I do realize I'm one of the only people that actually still uses the label "R&B," but I don't care. I like it.
We love MSTRKRFT remixes--we all know the magic they worked on Love in This Club, after all. This one, John Legend's Green Light, is really good in the first place (DUH), so remixing this had to be the easiest job in the world. But still, pretty great, right?
Also, I love that he dresses like H.

Life is a Pretty Sweet Fruit
This is one of our favorite Kids in the Hall sketches. KITH is definitely in my top two favorite sketch comedy shows (the other is Mr. Show. I could never pick which one I like best. It's so much like Sophie's choice), and Bruce is my favorite KITH guy. Basically this sketch is a dream.
